Globes

globes.jpg

The collection of globes holds 16 historical globes manufactured between the 18th and mid-20th century. The sizes of the globes vary from larger floor globes to smaller tabletop globes and even pocket-sized globes.

The earliest globe in the collection dates to 1728 by Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr from Nuremberg. The collection also contains a terrestrial globe made for George III in 1811 by Dudley Adams as well as a pair of terrestrial and celestial globes by William Edward Newton, and Miles Berry dated 1838.

Qatari cities are sometimes mentioned on these globes, such as the globe made by James Wyld in 1859 as well as a large globe manufactured by W. and A.K. Johnston from the early 20th century (c. 1902).
