Early Literacy Reading

There are so many benefits of parents reading together with their children. Not only does it help to build language skills, it also builds a bond between parent and children. Reading consistently from a young age also inculcates a positive attitude towards reading. Here are some tips to make reading an enjoyable experience for your child:

  • Select age appropriate books for your child. Avoid books with too many difficult words.
  • Talk to your child about the story. Ask simple questions to get them to think about the major events that happened in the story.
  • Choose a wide variety of books to keep reading interesting e.g Wordless Picture Books, Lift the Flap Books, Touch and Feel Books, Books with Sounds and Moving Parts.
