The Baghdad Clock is a captivating novel that showcases the final decade of the 20th century in Baghdad, as viewed through the eyes of a young girl who infuses the narrative with elements of awe and elegance. The story traces the experiences of the narrator and her family as they seek refuge in a fortified shelter during American air raids. Al-Rawi skillfully weaves in elements of magical realism, emotionally portraying the displacement and anxiety experienced by the protagonist and her neighbors. Garnering critical acclaim, the book was shortlisted for the prestigious 2018 International Prize for Arabic Fiction.
