Qatar National Library To Hold Its Popular Research Workshop For Undergraduates In March

In response to an increasing demand for academic research, Qatar National Library (QNL), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), will host throughout March a range of enriching research-focused events and workshops.

The research workshops reflect QNL’s continuous efforts to promote the value of research and enhance research skills of the wider community in striving towards a knowledge-based economy in Qatar. In line with QF’s mission to unlock human potential and create a progressive society, through these activities, QNL aligns itself with the objectives of the Qatar National Research Strategy (QNRS) as it continues to develop the capabilities of the people of Qatar through spreading knowledge and cultivation of creativity for future generations.

Engineer Saadi Al Said, QNL’s Director of Administration and Planning said: “The ability to conduct sound research is essential for students. The various research workshops that QNL plans to host in March are intended to ensure that members of the community are provided with the necessary training to be able to utilise the resources effectively for their individual research needs.”

He continued: “We introduce members of the community to a wealth of online databases covering a range of topics such as Middle Eastern studies, Science, History, Islamic studies and a section dedicated to children and teenagers. These online databases, along with the Qatar Digital Library (QDL) are invaluable resources that will contribute to numerous academic endeavours. We are honoured to be able to deliver such state-of-the-art services to facilitate research.’’

Giving undergraduates the opportunity to improve their research skills, ‘Conducting Research’ workshop will be held for the second time to meet popular demand of university students and the academic community.  Focusing on research best practices, the workshop consists of four modules, with the first session covering Module 1: Research Tool Kit and Module 2: Search Strategies & Techniques being held on March 3 at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Centre in Education City. The second session will be held in April.

On March 29 at the HBKU Student Centre, QNL invites members of the academic community to attend the research seminar titled “How to Publish in Academia”, which will assist researchers to develop their skills of writing research papers and offer advice on how to get academic work published.

In addition to the informative research workshops in March, QNL will organise numerous activities aimed at engaging the wider community.

This month’s book discussion will feature a book titled, ‘I Declare Love’ by Qatari author, Wedad Al Kuwari. Comprised of a series of articles on education and self-learning, the book highlights Al Kuwari’s deep love of reading and how being a voracious reader has benefited her during different life events.  To be conducted in Arabic, the discussion will take place on March 9 in the TV Lounge at HBKU Student Centre.

The Music Day workshop on March 16 will give members of the public an insight into the history of music and the valuable online music databases offered by QNL, such as the International Index to Music and the Music & Performing Arts (Alexander Street Press) databases.
