Qatar National Library Participates in Doha International Book Fair 2020

Qatar National Library will be ready to engage with book lovers and those hungry for knowledge at this year’s Doha International Book Fair (DIBF), which will be held from 9 - 18 January at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The Library’s dedicated space, which will be at the Central Plaza of DIBF, will provide an interactive experience to visitors who would like to learn something new and discover more about the Library. Librarians will be looking forward to welcoming visitors from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM during weekdays and from 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM on Fridays.

Specialized machines will be brought especially from the Library’s Digitization Center, and visitors will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the process by experts digitize historical manuscripts. This is one of the Library’s cornerstones towards preserving Qatar’s history and heritage. Those with an interest in history and heritage, will also enjoy the display of valuable manuscripts from the Library’s Heritage Collection. The Library’s expert librarians will be there to discuss the background of these items and give an overview of what the vast Heritage Library holds.

Librarians will be available to discuss with visitors how to navigate and select from the Library’s vast collection, discuss the most relevant events with which to engage, and its forthcoming activities. Those who have not yet become members of the Library, will be able to register onsite by presenting their Qatar ID and thus have free access to the world of printed, online and audio books that the Library holds. 

Fatima Al Mannai, Event Specialist at the Library, said: “DIBF is a great opportunity to bring the Library’s extensive resources closer to the communities we serve. We are grateful to the Ministry of Culture and Sports for making our presence at DIBF possible, and we look forward to engaging with visitors of all ages, as well as publishers, researchers and educators.”

The Library’s space at DIBF will also have something for families and young ones, with an engaging program of activities which promises to be entertaining and educational.
