Safeguarding Curiosity, Creativity And Community in Crisis Situations: Libraries as Catalysts for Community Engagement in Crisis

Sarah Champa,
Founder of Maktaba Children’s Library, Qatar

This presentation will focus on the post-analog adaptability of libraries and librarians and how this development makes them uniquely qualified to deliver informal education solutions to communities in crisis by leveraging skills, institutional partnerships, and community support. Librarians have evolved from information service providers to guides in a new hybrid analog/digital space. While there are still challenges to the traditional understanding of the services that libraries provide, one of the unexpected benefits of this transition is the emergence of the library as an informal learning hub. It can be argued that today the most valuable library resources are human resources.
