High profile Thai Officials and Diplomats Visit Qatar National Library

Qatar National Library (QNL) welcomed a number of high profile Thai officials and diplomats to its Heritage Collection Building on Wednesday, 21 January 2015. The delegation included H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Piroon Laismit, Ambassador of Thailand in Qatar, and other Thai officials in Qatar.

QNL's Associate Director for Administration and Planning, Saadi A. Al Said, and Dr Joachim Gierlichs, QNL’s Associate Director for Special Collections and Archives, accompanied the delegation on the visit and highlighted the rare and valuable texts and manuscripts related to the Arab-Islamic civilization and some of the Heritage Collection’s most valuable items.

Qatar National Library`s Heritage Collection attracts intellects and diplomats from all over the world and had witnessed many high profile visits. Through these visits QNL is reinforcing its vision of bridging cultures with knowledge. Previously Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited QNL’s Heritage Collection Building in January 2012 and was shown a number of ancient copies of the Holy Qur’an.


 
After that, in September 2013 H.E. Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, Ambassador of Thailand to the State of Qatar, on behalf of his country donated precious and valuable 200 year-old Holy Qur’an, to enrich the Library’s collection, and further enhance researchers’ opportunities.
