Qatar National Library Announces Winners of Mini-Library Competition

19 October 2021

Qatar National Library recently concluded an exciting competition for children and young adults, titled “My Mini-Library,” to enhance personal development and help cultivate reading habits. Young learners ages 6 to 14 participated in the competition and explored their creative abilities as part of the submission requirements. They were asked to state why they should be awarded a mini-library and submitted a few sentences and a drawing to express themselves. Entrants were also given the option to nominate a family member or a friend for the mini-library prize.

More than 100 participants in the competition conveyed their thoughts beautifully through a blend of words and art. Ahmad Tamer Yahia and Amis Bibin were declared the winners of the competition in an Instagram Live event on 17 October. They will be awarded with a mini-library bookshelf for their homes, with books handpicked especially for them, by the librarians at Qatar National Library.

The Library believes in instilling a love for reading in children and young adults and educating them about the importance of responsibility in their early years. Competitions like these inspire curiosity, innovation and critical thinking in our young users. The participants explored their creative abilities to compete for a prize that will help further their education. The Library will continue to host activities that promote reading and learning among youth, beyond the boundaries of a classroom.

The 30 books chosen for the winners cover a variety of topics including fiction and non-fiction. They were also offered a variety of games and crafts as part of the prize. Following the Instagram announcement, winners were invited to collect their prizes from the Library. The competition was successfully managed by the Library’s Access Services team, who support members in searching for the books they are looking for. The team looks forward to hosting more of such education events in the future.

The Library continues to offer a welcoming, safe and motivating setting for children and young adults to pursue continuous learning and discover new interests and talents by using the Library’s various facilities, programs and online and print resources. The success of the mini-library competition will further boost the Library’s efforts to create similar opportunities for all age groups in the future.

The Library also hosts a variety of workshops and activities for the public throughout the year. For a complete list of events, please visit the Events page on the Library’s website (www.qnl.qa/en/events).
