Italian Language Week: Evolution of Italian Opera Between 1800 and 1900: Convergences and Contrasts

Join us on a journey through the evolution of Italian opera from Bel Canto to the emergence of a new operatic style known as Verismo (Realism), epitomized by Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini and Pietro Mascagni. Concert performer, conductor, musicologist and journalist Adriano Bassi will share stories of famous Italian composers and play some of their most famous arias on the piano as we learn about Italian operatic traditions.
Italian Language Week: Learn Italian Through Songs

Songs can reflect contemporary developments of their language and represent a great source of real-life expressions. Let’s listen to “Volare,” by Domenico Modugno, and try to learn basic Italian vocabulary and phrases through this classic tune.
